Fossils
What lived and died long ago
Then came to oceans in the flow
From waning currents they settled deep
Among the rocks to eternal sleep
Millions of years they were thus lain
At length to emerge on land again
They vary in shape color and size
Whatever these mean is known to the wise
A story of ancient past they tell
What clues we need they give us well
Those who see only men as smart
In fossils can see great nature's art
